Mr. JEFFERY D. McMANUS, a member of the Director of the Counter terrorism Initiatives Office at the
U.S. Department of Defense, spoke for a History and Political Studies Departmental on Monday, January 29. Mr. McManus spent about an hour meeting with history and political studies majors, talking about possible careers in national security.
Mr. McManus spent a lot of time talking about how the work at the Department of Defense has changed since 9/11, focusing on the roll that counter terrorism plays in the overall national security of the country. Students also had a chance to ask questions about his day-to-day duties.
The Department of Defense is located in Arlington, VA, about 10 miles from the campus of
Columbia Union College. For more information about studying to become a national security or Homeland Security expert, contact Dr. Roy Branson, Director for the Center for Law and Public Policy. Dr. Branson can be reached at

TOMORROW WILL MARK THE LAST DAY of the Week In Spiritual Emphasis (or WISE) which we have enjoyed on the campus for the past few days. Featuring student speakers, faculty and staff presentations, and awesome praise and worship music, WISE has been a big hit and bigger blessing on the campus.
By the end of the week, Joey Kruger, SA President, senior religion and communication major, Sara Colon, junior theology major (pictured left) Jacqueline Sanchez, junior theology major, Eric Thompson, senior business administration major, and Anthony Hackett, SA Religious VP, senior religion major and organizer of the student-led week of ministry, will have all shared the messages that God has given them with the campus. Based around the theme "A New Season", this week has offered a diverse, impactful and dare we say, fun :)! perspective on how to grow in Christ, and move into the New Season of life He offers.
For more information on the speakers and their specific topics, check out our
main CUC website.

THE COLUMBIA UNION College Acro-Airs team performed last night during the Washington Wizards
99-98 win over the New York Knicks. The team was the halftime entertainment and provided a variety of stunt routines during time-outs and television time-outs.
The
Acro-Airs, CUC's high-flying gymnastics team, performs regularly for the Wizards and other NBA teams. In recent years the team has performed in New York (
read about their recent performance at Madison Square Garden), Philadelphia, Indianapolis, Boston, Toronto, and Atlanta. Many colleges and universities have gymnastics teams, but few can boast the performing schedule of the Acro-Airs. "You have to understand, we are performing for 20,000 people when we do these NBA games," said Don Peter, a member of the team. "It's an amazing feeling -- especially when the whole arena cheers for us when we're done."
You can catch the Acro-Airs for yourself at one of their upcoming shows (see schedule below). If you would like more information about the team or would like to schedule a performance near you, please contact coach Ben Johnson at

CNN.COM HAS A feature on their travel website dedicated to Washington, DC's 'lesser known' areas -- areas that have recently seen dramatic improvements.
Washington is known for its fantastic views, stunning monuments, marvelous (and free!) Smithsonian museums, ethnic foods, and wide open spaces. But there is so much more that the average tourist never gets to experience. One nice thing about being a student at CUC is that you have an enti
re year to explore all that the city has to offer. The CNN article highlights some of the new-and-improved hot spots in town.
CUC students are quite fond of places featured in the story; places like Ben's Chili Bowl, Cafe Saint-Ex, and Cake Love.
Ben's Chili Bowl has been open since the 1950's and has served food to people like Dr. Martin Luther King, Duke Ellington, Robert DiNero, and Bill Cosby.
Cake Love is a cafe and bakery that is featured regularly on
the Food Network.
And in case you are wondering, Ben's Chili Bowl and Cake Love are less than 5 miles from the CUC campus.

IT HASN'T EXACTLY been a bitterly cold winter. In fact, it's been quite the opposite, with several days in January getting up into the 70's. But mother nature has been cooperating in recent days and that's good news for those going on the SA Ski trip on January 14-15. The trip, always a student favorite, will cost CUC students only $40 -- and that includes lift tickets, lodging and breakfast on Monday morning. That's a sweet deal.
The ski trip is sponsored by the
CUC Student Association and is one of many events they sponsor each semester. For more information, contact SA President Joseph Kruger at
jkruger@cuc.edu.
