Every other year, CUC hosts Seventh-day Adventist academies on campus for a honors band festival. This year, this best band members from Blue Mountain Academy, Highland View Academy, Mt. Vernon Academy, Fletcher Academy, Takoma Academy, Spencerville Adventist Academy and Spring Valley Academy are featured.
The festival is by tape-audition, and CUC Concert Winds Director Bruce Wilson coordinates who is accepted into the prestigious honors band.
This year is the first that the Columbia Concert Winds will be playing in full force alongside the academy students, making up a band 90 members strong.
Also, as is tradition, CUC brings in a guest conductor/composer for the festival. This year,
Stephen Bulla, who has participated in the band festival previously, returned to conduct some of his older pieces and to conduct the world premiere of a piece he was commissioned to compose specifically for the festival.
Don't miss the world premiere of this piece, among other fantastic works of band literature tonight at the
Spencerville Seventh-day Adventist Church at 7:30 p.m.
The honors band will also be performing several pieces for church services on Saturday, February 9 at the
Sligo SDA Church.
